Portfolio demand
One buyer, many sites, repeat delivery and an accepted evidence record. Test coordination inside an existing budget.
Velocity EU · Investor narrative
The operating system for aerial field work.
Canopy is developing that operating system — a proposed service and software layer for aerial jobs, not a drone factory, not a satellite buy, not a grant award. The US, EU and UK are not greenfield. A twelve-month unicorn is an ambition, not a forecast.

Thesis Updated 17 Sep 2026 · strapline reframe
Canopy is developing the operating system for aerial field work. Recommended first commercial test: recurring property or construction documentation for a paying portfolio buyer. Agriculture remains a specialist vertical. Canopy Link is a separate technical hypothesis.
01 Start
One buyer, many sites, repeat delivery and an accepted evidence record. Test coordination inside an existing budget.
02 Test
Homeowner views, listing media and promotional flyovers through agents and agencies. Measure first-order economics.
03 Qualify
Civil or defence-adjacent work only with a named sponsor. Integration and supervised autonomy stay gated and separately costed.
Expanding the catalogue does not create a moat. FlyGuys, Zeitview, FlyNex, Droners, AcreConnect and Procore/DroneDeploy already overlap. No customer traction is implied. S26–S30 · S46–S47.
Competition Updated 15 Sep 2026 · R3
| Player | Verified overlap | What it is not |
|---|---|---|
| AcreConnect / American Autonomy | US job ops, logs, maps, discovery. From USD650/user/year, annual billing. | Not an EU/BG receipt product. Advertised offer, not Canopy WTP. S02–S05. |
| ProxyDrone.eu | PARTIAL — RO B2B marketplace: post job, compare offers, execution report, payment. | Not live landowner view, BFSA pack, sat cue, or a full Canopy OS. |
| DroneDeploy / Procore | Reality capture. Procore reported completion 9 Sep 2026. ~USD845m cash announced July, subject to adjustments. | Report date ≠ inferred closing date. No revenue multiple. S46–S47. |
| FlyGuys · Zeitview · FlyNex · Droners · HireDronePilot | US/EU/UK matching, mission templates, asset intel, planning software. | Vendor claims, not audited share. No Canopy partnership. |
| BG / Balkan crews | SkyAgro, Agro Drone BG, Adronom and peers already fly. | Direct contractors. No verified live job OS with accepted receipt. |
No full Canopy OS (instant book + any-size land + live customer view + sat cue + EU chem receipt) was verified in Bulgaria, the EU or the UK. “First network” is not a defensible claim. DJI’s 600,000 figure is DJI agricultural drones by end-2025, not all manufacturers or software TAM. S14.
Three commercial routes New 15 Sep 2026 · R3
Capture
Homeowner, agent, agency
Disclosed booking or coordination fee. Revisions, weather and rights explicit. Agent-model GMV is not platform revenue.
Portfolio
Property, facilities, construction
Pay for records, scheduling and acceptance. Capture is separately scoped. Buyer may use own or partner pilots.
Assured
Civil / defence-adjacent
Named sponsor, procurement route, funded scope, lawful use, accepted data boundary. A framework place is not revenue.
Published local references — not Canopy tariffs. Wild Dog Digital: USD199 photography; USD249 standalone aerial video (the USD199 add-on is aerial video on a ground-video booking). Drone Studio North East: GBP195 / 295 / 945 / 1,495 including VAT. GBP195 ÷ 1.20 = GBP162.50 ex-VAT illustration only. S35 · S36 · S44.
Multisector New 15 Sep 2026 · R3
Investment order of experiment — not a measured attractiveness score or market-share forecast.
| Service | Direction | Constraint |
|---|---|---|
| Construction progress | Recommended first paid pilot | Access, weather, baseline consistency |
| Roof / property condition | Priority discovery | A photo is not a professional diagnosis |
| Listing / promotional media | Channel test via agents | Editing labour and rights |
| Homeowner aerial view | Controlled local test | Acquisition cost; repeat uncertain |
| Utilities / civil survey | Partner-led later | Calibration and specialist sign-off |
| Agriculture | Specialist vertical + own-field test | Product-use and aviation permissions |
A photography-qualified pilot is not automatically qualified to spray, survey or work a sensitive site. Global farm-count / land-share TAM rows stay out of this headline until the primary table is reconfirmed.
Canopy Link New 15 Sep 2026 · R3
Hypothesis: a mission and evidence layer for named ecosystems. Not a new radio protocol. Not universal compatibility.
Candidate first adapters: PX4/MAVLink simulation and one supported DJI enterprise path — conditional on access and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) terms. MAVLink, Auterion, DJI Cloud application programming interface (API), FlytBase and Percepto already overlap. Phone location is not aircraft telemetry. S50 · S60–S65. Clickable walk: product simulator · Edge Kit and Link.
Sensors New 15 Sep 2026 · R3
Test
Same accepted inspection record from two configurations. A warm pixel is not a diagnosis. Buyer method and calibration required.
Later
Only if a funded question exists and current platforms cannot supply the measurement. Installation, EMC, warranty and operating approval are configuration-specific.
DJI already showcases gas-monitor and mapping payloads. A universal physical attachment is not a claim we can make. No mass, power, accuracy or sensor price is invented. S63.
Supervised autonomy New 15 Sep 2026 · R3
1
Normalise records. Test quality rules. No live command authority.
2
Qualified operator, established platform. Canopy records; operator flies.
3
Request supported missions inside an approved envelope. Monitor exceptions.
4
Only after permissions and recovery evidence. Not promised in twelve months.
EASA distinguishes automatic and autonomous; autonomous is outside Open. The reviewed FAA BVLOS material is a proposal. A dock or land ownership does not authorise BVLOS. Measure cost per accepted inspection, not take-offs. S52 · S53 · S66.
Funding eligibility New 15 Sep 2026 · R3
| Route | Status 15 Sep 2026 | Action |
|---|---|---|
| EIC Accelerator | Next full-proposal batch 4 Nov after a successful short proposal. TRL 6–8. | Later route. Maturity not evidenced. |
| EIC Pathfinder / Transition | Open deadline passed; Transition needs prior EU-funded results. | No eligible prior result on record. |
| Eurostars Call 11 | Closed 10 September 2026. Civil SME-led collaboration. | Watch a future call. No next deadline asserted. |
| Innovate UK dual-use aviation | Closed 3 June 2026. Included UAS; excluded counter-UAS. | Precedent only. Not an open application. |
No Canopy grant, consortium or eligibility is established. Keep speculative receipts out of runway. Programme caps are not awards. S54–S59.
Financial models Updated 15 Sep 2026 · R3
Three R2 models — not a statutory three-statement forecast. Amber cells stay empty until evidenced. Do not add the R1 workbook to R2.
Model 1
Actual quote, tax, agreed fee, operator entitlement, contribution before/after acquisition. Competitor prices are not substituted.
Model 2
Oct 2026–Sep 2027. Distinct site fee and capture fee. Agent-model revenue excludes operator pass-through.
Model 3
Collections, payments, reserve, peak funding. Bid sensitivity does not feed revenue. OS bid GBP1,092,200 is historical procurement only.
Interactive R2 workbook · Model guide · Download R2 .xlsx · R1 reference workbook. No Canopy fee, take rate, payroll, volume or FX conversion was invented. S35–S37 · S44–S45.
Bulgaria experiment New 15 Sep 2026 · R3
Founder-stated test base ~1,000 acres (~405 ha). Own-field jobs validate mechanics and receipt fields. They do not prove arm’s-length demand or network liquidity.
Can test
Request → accept → live map → Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA)-shaped candidate evidence record. Ferry notes on these parcels. Survey first unless a spray path is already clear.
Cannot test
Two-sided liquidity, take rate, national BFSA acceptance, dock TCO, or civil-protection procurement.
Gates
Outside crew on ≥3 jobs; live view used on ≥70%; receipt fields ≥90% complete; one non-founder landowner. Kill if only self-fly.
Census 2020 (No406, Oct 2022, hosted 2023): 132,742 holdings including 5,464 without UAA; 35.9 ha average on 127,278 holdings with UAA; 37,452 in the >0 and <1 ha class — not “≤1 ha.” Do not splice with a later land-use series. S48.
OEM hardware Updated 15 Sep 2026 · R3
Vendor kit we may later dispatch — not a factory we run, and not Canopy hardware. Photographs are vendor product images. No unpublished airframe prices. Guardian Agriculture shut down 2025; no adapter. Sources: XAG XA1 · DJI Dock 3 · DJI Agriculture · Pyka Pelican 2. Directory: Organisations.
